Hair Care Tips
We all know that proper maintenance is the key to the longevity of your hair. However, many people don’t know how to properly maintain hair extensions. We’re going to tell you how to get the most out of your investment.
Maintenance Tips
Co-Wash the hair prior to installation. Let air dry.
Use a light shampoo/conditioner “sulfate free”. Sulfate strips the hair of essential oils and cause split ends. We recommend using Pantene, Tresemme Keratin, Aussie, and Herbal Essence. These shampoos are usually light and provide the necessary ingredients to keep your hair soft, shiny, frizz-free, and full of life. (These are only a list of the more affordable options. You can use your favorite products, just make certain it is sulfate free).
While washing your extensions, we ask that you not pull the hair when rinsing out the shampoo. Do not twist the hair to squeeze out the water or towel dry and pull with a ruff towel. Doing this will cause damage and breakage. Excessive styling (e.g., daily curling & straightening) will cause split ends which occur when the outer layer of the hair is damaged by brushing aggressively (i.e., without the recommended brush).
For best results, please use a denman brush or tangle teaser only. We do not recommend a small tooth comb on curly hair.
We do recommend deep conditioning for 30 minutes every two weeks to keep the hair shiny, soft and manageable. Remember hair needs moisture.
Things that will cause dry hair:
Washing too often
Sulfate shampoo
Hair dye/Bleaching/Chemicals
Excessive heat
Wash the hair once a week to remove the dirt/product buildup which results in stiffness.
Please, please let the hair air dry. Remember, excessive heat (daily) will cause damage.
When flat-ironing the straight hair, you can use one of the following suggested heat protectants/leave-in conditioners: Aussie Total Miracle, CHI 44 Iron Guard, Shea Moisture, Beyond the Zone, Mongongo Oil or Tresseme Keratin. Remember you can also use the no heat method to curl hair using rollers, perm rods, bantu knots, and braids. (These are only suggestions). Also, Ogx Weightless Coconut Oil can be used while styling.
To maintain a defined curl/wet look: Add your desired curly cream/lotion or mousse.
1. Saturate hair with water.
2. Detangle.
3. Add your favorite product.
Below is a list of great products for curly hair: (These are only suggestions, you can use your favorite products).
1. Lotta Body Milk Honey (nourish me) leave-in conditioner
2. Cantu Coconut Curling Cream
3. Design Essentials Foam Wrap (don’t over use)
4. Don’t forget your oils.
5. Aussie Miracle Curl Mousse
Best results are seen when the hair is wet. Do not comb or touch the hair too much while it is drying.
On curly hair, divide hair into sections before bed. Twist/braid each section. Covering the hair with a silk scarf or bonnet is recommended.
Please treat this hair like you would your natural hair. With proper treatment and care, the Diamond Hair Collection can last two years.
